Drivers who do not respect pedestrian crossings can no longer dodge this traffic violation as Dubai Police unveiled a new Smart System that will monitor all zebra lanes.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the Smart System will help traffic authorities monitor, maintain road security, and reduce run-over cases.
The device is solar-powered and connected through the traffic control system.
It is also equipped with sensors that can detect movement of pedestrians on both sides of the road.
It will also alert motorists of the necessity of stopping and giving priority to pedestrians through a red-light indicator.
Al Mazrouei said this Smart System is part of achieving the highest levels of security by compelling all motorists to abide by traffic regulations and laws.
