5 expats jailed, deported for faking road accident

Five Arab men were sentenced to spend three years in prison for faking reports of road accidents to scam insurance companies.
The Umm Al Quwain Misdemeanour Court also fined the suspects with Dh750,000-Dh150,000 each and ordered their deportation upon serving jail term.
According to Khaleej Times, the gang were arrested by UAQ Police in coordination with authorities in other emirates last September 2019 for faking 20 e-accident reports.
The five men were able to collect compensation from insurance companies by intentionally committing road accidents.
Major-General Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmad Al Mualla, Commander-in-Chief of the Umm Al Quwain Police, said the UAQ Police tracked down the fraudsters after receiving reports of suspicious accidents involving the same vehicles and drivers at parking lots during late hours.
“Investigations showed that the accidents were reported in several emirates, including Umm Al Quwain.” he said.
The suspects admitted the misdeeds and they were referred to Public Prosecution.
