President Duterte leaves ABS-CBN franchise decision to Congress

President Rodrigo Duterte stated that he will leave the issue of media giant’s congressional franchise to Congress as he accepted the apology of the network failure to air his commercial last 2016 polls
“Fundamentally really ang decision, nasa House ngayon. All of these things must originate from the Lower House,” the President said during his speech at 2020 Ani ng Dangal Awards.

President Duterte added that ABS-CBN should just donate to charity the money it is returning to him.
During the Senate hearing on ABS-CBN’s franchise last February 24, ABS-CBN Corp. president and chief executive officer Carlo L. Katigbak apologized to the President if he was upset but stood firm that the network abide with the election laws.

“We were sorry if we offended the President. That was not the intention of the network. We felt that we were just abiding by the laws and regulations that surround the airing of political ads,” Katigbak said.
Duterte claimed he has nothing to do with the quo warranto petition filed before Supreme Court by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
