Solon files joint reso to extend ABS-CBN franchise until 2022

A lawmaker has filed a joint resolution extending the validity of the congressional franchise of ABS-CBN until the end of 18th congress on June 2022 .
Cebu City Representative Raul Del Mar filed House Joint Resolution 28 to extend the media giant’s franchise as Congress deliberate the network’s application.

“This being so, we have to do something, how to normalize the situation and allow ABS-CBN to continue its operations even after their franchise expires on March 30,” Del Mar told GMA News.
The lawmaker said there’s a necessity to file the concurrent resolution so that Congress can review the pending applications without pressure.

“This is the next best thing to express the sense of Congress that we allow ABS-CBN to continue operations until such time has a final decision by a vote of the majority of the House and the Senate after on the application of renewal,” he stressed.
There are 11 bills pending before the lower chamber seeking the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.
A similar measure was sought by Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon in the Senate.
