OFW wife sends husband to jail for concubinage charge

The husband of an overseas Filipina is now behind bars after he was caught by his wife sharing a passionate moment with his mistress in their home.
The husband who was only named “Joel” in a GMA News report is facing charges of concubinage.
His wife Aira (not her real name), who works as an overseas Filipino worker based in the Middle East, was the one who filed the case after she was shocked when she personally witnessed her husband’s infidelity.
Out of anger, Aira physically hurt the mistress Rina (not her real name) and even pulled her hair.
Under Article 334 of the Revised Penal Code, concubinage is proven when a husband “keeps a mistress in conjugal dwelling, has sexual intercourse under scandalous circumstances with a woman who is not his wife, or cohabits with the mistress in any other place”.
If proven in court, Aira’s husband will be serve a sentence of six months and one day, up to four years and two months.
Apart from concubinage, Joel will also be charged for causing psychological violence to his wife, under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act.
