Malacañang: Duterte says Trump will also terminate VFA, wants US leader reelected

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that President Rodrigo Duterte believes US President Donald Trump will also scrap the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) just like what he did.
“Given his character and principled stand on a matter of national interest, [Trump] would have done exactly the same thing he had done, and if he (PRRD) were the US President, he would have given the same reaction,” Panelo said in a statement.

Trump said last week that he wouldn’t mind the decision of the Philippines to terminate the VFA and that it will even save a lot of money.

Panelo said that Duterte expressed his support for the American leader’s re-election.

“President Trump is a good President, and he deserves to be re-elected,” Duterte, as quoted by Panelo, said.

The VFA termination comes after the US government canceled the visa of staunch Duterte supporter and ally Senator Bato Dela Rosa.
