Chinese state television CCTV reported that the seizure is part of China’s Ministry of Public Security a massive crackdown on the production and sale of counterfeit medicines and medical supplies that has hounded the entire country in the face of the global pandemic.

Public security agencies have arrested 838 suspects, destroyed 355 “criminal dens” and filed 356 cases for the past weeks related to the counterfeiting of medicines and medical supplies since the crackdown started.

In Hubei, around 300,000 sets of “inferior protective clothing” apparently in reference to the Hazmaz suits were also seized.

In Qingyuan in Guangdong province, its Central Food and Drug Investigation Division’s Public Security Bureau cracked a major case involving the production and sale of fake and inferior medical alcohol, and arrested 12 criminal suspects.

Nearly 6,000 bottles of counterfeit and inferior medical alcohol products, a batch of unfilled raw materials, totaling about 4 tons, and about 15,000 empty bottles ready to be filled were confiscated.

“With the support of Guangzhou Police, the whole chain destroyed the counterfeit and inferior medical alcohol, production and sales lines,” the CCTV reported.
