The United States Embassy in the Philippines released Tuesday its statement on termination of Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) between the Philippines and United States.
The US Embassy warned that this is a serious step with significant implications for the U.S.-Philippines alliance.
The United States will carefully consider how best to move forward to advance our shared interests.
“Our two countries enjoy a warm relationship, deeply rooted in history,” it said in a statement.
“We remain committed to the friendship between our two peoples,” the statement concluded.
On Tuesday, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. signed the notice of termination of the Philippines’ Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States, a move triggered by the visa cancellation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s close ally.
