UAE launches awareness drive on road safety

The Sharjah and Fujairah Police intensified its campaign to reduce accidents and raise road safety awareness across the respective emirates.
While the number of violations significantly dropped by 60 percent during the last two years, many motorists are caught ignoring the seat belt rule by security cameras, according to a top Sharjah Police official.

Statistics showed that most of the serious accidents in the past two years were caused by failure to fasten seatbelts.
This prompted the Sharjah Police to continue its awareness campaign called ‘Hezamak Amanak’ (Your Belt, Your Safety) which include distribution of brochures in several languages, reminding motorists to buckle up, and refrain from driving with children in the front seat of the vehicles, reported Khaleej Times.
“They don’t seem to take heed to the fact that in case of accident or sudden braking, children could be thrown off onto the windshield,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fujairah Police launched a crackdown on seat belt violators, as well as parents who allow their children to sit in the front seat.
Authorities warned that violators of seat belt regulations will face Dh400 fine and four black points.
