Thirty crew members of the World Dream cruise ship being quarantined in Hong Kong reportedly have flu or other symptoms, its owner Genting Hong Kong Ltd. said.
Nearly 3,700 passengers and crew of the cruise ship have been placed on isolation in Hong Kong port after three of its Chinese passengers tested positive for nCoV-ARD virus.
The infected passengers were on board the ship from January 19-24. They boarded from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, then traveled to Hong Kong and returned back to Guangzhou.
The infection was only confirmed last February 3.
The ship was about to make a port call in Kaohsiung when Taiwan blocked it, forcing the ship to return to Hong Kong Wednesday.
“We are currently waiting for the results to come,” Edith Poon, spokesperson for Genting Hong Kong Ltd., said.
World Dream is the third cruise ship that has been placed on quarantine following the spread of the new coronavirus globally. The first one, Costa Smeralda, turned out to be negative. The second cruise was Diamond Princess where 20 passengers and crew, including a Filipino crew, were tested positive.
