Waiter caught stealing on camera in Dubai restaurant

The Dubai Court of First Instance is now hearing the case of a waiter after he was caught stealing Dh3,500 from the restaurant he was working in.
The 25-year-old Nepalese reportedly tried to disconnect the surveillance cameras in the restaurant hoping that he won’t be caught stealing the cash box.
In a report on The Khaleej Times, the incident took place on December 5 at the Al Qusais Police Station.

His colleague, a 33-year-old Indian told the court that he could not find the cash box where revenues are being kept.
“I rang up my colleague to ask him whether he had seen it. I was surprised as he was also looking for the key of the cash register,” the man said.
When the cashier checked on the camera, the waiter was seen holding the money briefcase.
“It was around 6.30am. I saw him heading towards the cash register, which he opened with the key and took the money that was inside the register and in the briefcase. He took a total amount of Dh3,500,” he said.
“The waiter had disconnected the power off the surveillance cameras,” the witness added.
The prosecutor said that the waiter admitted to stealing the money. He said that he asked the settlement with the business owner and that he was willing to pay back what he stole.
