A man from another Gulf country is on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of impersonating a UAE Sheikh at a local hospital.
A court of first instance had earlier sentenced the unnamed man to five years in prison and fined him Dh300,000, prompting the defendant to appeal the verdict.
The court of appeals this decided to adjourn hearings to Jan 20 for more witnesses at the hospital where he was accused of presenting a fake ID.
Hospital management reported the man to the police after he visited some sections 8 times and issued instructions to the staff members, Al Bayan daily reported.
Court was told the defendant was dressed in a Sheikh’s gown, but his lawyer denied the man impersonated a Sheikh on the grounds hospital staff mistook him for such a senior personality because of his dress.
