Duterte names new PNP Chief

President Rodrigo Duterte has named Police Lieutenant General and Officer-In-Charge Archie Gamboa as the next Philippine National Police Chief.
“We have the PNP Chief, I’m going to appoint you as the regular PNP but you and Secretary Año and I will have a long, long talk first,” Duterte said in a speech in Davao City.
“Ipinakita mo sa akin ‘yung sincerity mo and I want you to leave something that you will be remembered by the country,” Duterte added.
Gamboa stood up during the event and acknoweledged the President’s orders with a salute.
Shortly after the President’s announcement, Gamboa said that he was surprised with the President’s appointment.
“Under the able leadership of PLtGen Gamboa, we assure the public that the PNP remains committed to intensify the campaign against criminality, illegal drugs and corruption,” the PNP said in a statement.
Gamboa took over the post as PNP-OIC, after former PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde resigned from his post due to the ninja cops controversy.
