New fissures spotted in towns around Taal volcano – PHIVOLCS

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday said they observed fissures or cracks on ground in several towns in Batangas as the Taal Volcano continues its unrest.
New fissures appeared in villages namely Sinisian, Mahabang Dahilig, Dayapan, Palanas, Sangalang, Poblacion, Lemery; Pansipit, Agoncillo; Poblacion 1, Poblacion 2, Poblacion 3, Poblacion 5, Talisay, and San Nicolas, according to the latest release from PHIVOLCS.
Experts also documented a fissure across the road connecting Agoncillo to Laurel, Batangas.
The Philippine Seismic Network recorded 49 volcanic earthquakes in the Taal region from 2:00 AM to 10:00 AM today.
Seven of which had intensities ranging from Intensity II to IV in Tagaytay City.
The state volcanologist explained that intense seismic activity coupled with fissuring on the caldera region means that magma is still present beneath the Taal edifice, which may lead to further eruptive activity.
PHIVOLCS reiterated that total evacuation of Taal Volcano and areas within 14-kilometer radius from Taal Main Crater as these areas are susceptible to pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami.
Alert level 4 or hazardous explosive eruption is still imminent in Taal Volcano.
