A mentally ill Bahrain resident tried to kill his neighbour by stabbing him many times but he later told police that he only punched him and ran away.
The 48-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital with serious stab wounds while police raiding the nearby house found the assailant with blood stains on his hands.
Witnesses told police that the 23-year-old neighbour stabbed the victim many times just as he stepped out of his house and that he was waiting for him with a knife.
In court, the defendant said the victim pulled a knife and that he tried to defend himself by punching him.
Newspapers said the judge will issue a sentence this January 28 after receiving a medical report that the defendant was undergoing psychiatric treatment.
