Ashfall may linger in Metro Manila for 3 days

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), weather specialist Chris Perez of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), with local disaster risk reduction clusters advised the public to stay indoors as the ashfall may last up to three days depending on wind conditions.
Chris Perez told the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) that the Taal’s volcanic ash reached Metro Manila because of the northward wind direction, as per reports from the Philippine Star.
“For the next 24 hours to three days, it’s possible that the wind will shift, carrying the ash plume to Quezon, Laguna, and Rizal,” said Perez.
The PAG-ASA weather specialist stressed that even if the wind changes its course, Metro Manila would still experience the ashfall.
He urged schools and universities to prolong the suspension of classes in the meantime to ensure the safety of the students.
The ash contains harmful materials that would greatly affect the heart and the respiratory system.
