Over 24,000 residents of Batangas, Cavite flee their homes

The province of Batangas has turned into a ‘ghost town’ with the sudden volcanic activity of Taal Volcano on January 12.
In Batangas and Cavite, more than 24,000 residents flee their homes due to the voluminous ash spewed by Taal Volcano.
From Alert Level 2 to 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) warned of ‘imminent hazardous eruption’ which can last for hours or even days.
The ash began to reach the parts of Central Luzon, Ilocos Region, and some neighboring provinces of Batangas under CALABARZON, covering many infrastructures. Metro Manila was also affected with the ash enveloping the metropolis.
The ashfall also swept the Quezon Province on Monday due to the irregularities in the wind direction.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has also been affected. Approximately 500 flights on Sunday were prevented to fly.
The Manila International Airport Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines announced the partial resumption of the airline operations on Monday.
