Bicol int’l airport to open in June

The Bicol International Airport (BIA) is slated to open its doors by June this year.

The Department of Tranportation posted an official announcement saying that BIA was finally nearing completion following 11 years of construction delay.

The airport has been dubbed as the “Most Scenic Gateway” to the country with Mayon volcano being visible neaby

Meanwhile, Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda emphasized the role of BIA in boosting tourist arrivals in the region.

The  Department of Tourism (DOT) will reportedly help the region by creating  campaigns that would highlight scenic natural wonders.

Tourists flying in via the BIA would land at the heart of the tourism hub of Bicol region where the iconic Mayon volcano and the Casagwa Ruins are located, Salceda said.

BIA officials estimated that the airport would welcome some 20 million tourists annually.

Last year, the Philippines welcomed its 8-millionth international tourist at the NAIA.
