Train sets for LRT-1 Extension to arrive in July 2020

The train sets for the 64.9 billion peso Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT 1) Cavite extension is expected to arrive in the country by July next year.

The train set will be delivered from Spain by Mitsubishi Corp. along with its technical partner Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, according to Goddes Hope Oliveros-Libiran, assistant secretary of Department of Transportation (DOTR).

She noted that the acquisition of right of way for the first phase of the extension project is 91% complete.

The first phase of the extension comprised a seven-kilometer elevated railway with five stations that will run from Redemptorist Church in Baclaran to Dr. Santos Avenue in Parañaque City.

Libiran told Business World that the first phase of LRT-1 Extension will be partially operational by 2021 while the remaining stations between Las Piñas and Niog in Bacoor, Cavite will be finished by 2022.

The 64.9 billion peso LRT-1 Cavite Extension project is expected to cut travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor, Cavite to 25 minutes.

The project was approved by National Economic and Development Authority in 2013 under public-private-partnership venture but was delayed citing right of way issues.
