Duterte may sign 2020 National Budget early January

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the 2020 Budget will likely be signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in the first week of January next year.

Panelo explained that the proposed PHP4.1-trillion national budget for 2020 was still under thorough review by Duterte.

“He will go through that. Di ba ganun si Presidente? Mabusisi (Thorough),” Panelo told reporters.

“This President is a lawyer, so he knows what is unconstitutional or not so he decides for himself.”

Earlier, Senator Panfilo Lacson claimed that the 2020 national budget plan, which was ratified by Congress, contained around 1,253 budget items amounting to PHP83.219 billion which serve as congressmen’s “source” of their “list” of 742 projects worth PHP16.342 billion.

Meanwhile, Duterte has signed a law extending the availability of the 2019 national budget until December 31, 2020.
