Several flights were cancelled as Typhoon Ursula makes landfall in the country on Christmas eve.
This leaves some passengers to celebrate Christmas at the airport.
Philippine Airlines in a statement said that they have announced flight cancellations as early as Monday.
Cebu Pacific and Air Asia also announced flight cancellations because of the brewing storm.
The Manila International Airport Authority or MIAA however clarified that airport operations remained normal despite the holiday rush.
At least 13,395 passengers are also stranded in various sea ports in the Bicol region as of 12 noon according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
The PCG said that more than 10 thousand of these stranded passengers are bound to Visayas and Mindanao.
Typhoon Ursula has made landfall at Salcedo, Eastern Samar at around 4:45 in the afternoon yesterday, December 24.
PAGASA said more than 40 areas were placed under storm signs across the country.
Although weaker, Ursula was tracking a similar path as Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan), the country’s deadliest cyclone on record which left more than 7,300 people dead or missing in 2013.
