The Laguna provincial government has temporarily banned the sale of lambanog in the province over the deaths of at least 10 people due to methanol poisoning.
In a Facebook post, Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez asked for public understanding regarding the poisoning incident.
“Ang inyo pong lingkod ay nag-utos ng temporary ban sa pagbebenta at pagbili ng lambanog sa buong lalawigan kasunod ng pagkamatay ng ilang tao sa bayan ng Rizal, matapos malason di-umano dahil sa pag-inom ng naturang alak,” Hernandez said.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also collected samples for examination if indeed alcohol poisoning was the cause of the deaths.
Fred Rey, owner of “Rey Lambanog,” which is blamed for the alcohol poisoning, turned himself in to authorities.
Malacañang today expressed alarm over the reported alcohol poisoning incident.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo reminded the public to be careful and cautious about what they consume.
“Prudence dictates that we should always be mindful of what we ingest, particularly during this is time of the year,” Panelo said.
