Parents oftentimes go and check on their children in schools when they hear that teachers are disciplining them.
A lawyer however warned that parents who attacks or issues threats to teachers could be held liable under Article 51 of the Revised Penal Code for direct assault to persons in authority.
“Minsan overacting ang parents eh. Kahit na sabihin natin na wala na si teacher sa premises, tinakot mo inintimidate mo, because of what she did sa anak mo,” lawyer Claire Castro told DZMM.
Teachers and school officials can qualify as “persons of authority” when inside school premises.
Castro reminded parents to keep their cool when teachers discipline their children.
The lawyer also told teachers not to use physical force when disciplining their students.
“Sa mga teacher naman, alam niyo namang person in authority kayo, kung nagagalit kayo sa estudyante niyo huwag niyong daanin sa pisikal ang mga bata kasi nato-trauma. Napapahiya naman kasi talaga sila ‘pag nasisigawan o ano, We can do it in a nicer way,” Castro added.
People who will be charged of direct assault can face six months to six years’ imprisonment.
