Duterte honors Filipino SEA Games medalists in Malacañang

President Rodrigo Duterte today met and honored Filipino athletes who won in the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in an event held in Malacañang.

Duterte also conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu award to the 600 Filipino athletes who emerged victorious and helped in securing the country’s bid for overall championship.

“We are lucky to have a President who support us fully and has a big heart for our athletes,” Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez said in a speech.

The winning athletes also received cash incentives during the event.

The Order of Lapu-Lapu, is being given to individuals for their “invaluable service in relation to a campaign or advocacy of the President.”

The country won the 30th SEA Games, bagging 149 gold medas, 117 silver and 121 bronze.

The Philippines won its last overall championship in 2005 with a home court advantage, hosting the event.

The national athletes who won in international sporting events will receive P300,000 each for gold, P150,000 each for silver, and P60,000 each for bronze.
