The government said a family of five in the Philippines with a monthly income of Php10,727 can only expect their meals to be hardboiled egg, monggo and dilis.

In a press conference in Malacañang, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Assistant Secretary Rosalinda Bautista said a family of five can eat scambled eggs, rice and three in one coffee.

For lunch, the family can eat malunggay, dilis, rice and banana. For dinner, they can have fried fish, pork nilaga and vegetables and rice.

Snacks can also be allotted from the budget like pandesal and kamoteng kahoy.

The PSA added that for the Php10,000 monthly budget, Php7,528 will be allotted for food items.

The agency also said alcohol and cigarettes are not included in the monthly budget.

Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said that Filipinos should not expect extravagant and delicious food for families living within the poverty threshold.
