Senator Cynthia Villar has offered a simple and easy solution on the rising prices of Filipino staple fish food “galunggong,” or mackerel scad.
Villar told reporters that Filipinos should stop buying and eating galunggong which has already reached Php300 per kilo, according to recent reports.
“Kung mahal ang galunggong, eh di wag kumain ng galunggong, ‘di ba? There are other alternatives. Bakit ba gustong-gusto ‘nyo ‘yung galunggong kung mahal ang galunggong?” Villar said.
Villar added that Filipinos should be more open to alternatives like vegetables.
“Bakit ba patay na patay tayo? Mahal na ang galunggong. Huwag kumain ng galunggong. Kumain ng other means which are cheaper and available. Dami namang choices, bakit ba ini-insist ‘yan?” Villar added.
The Trade Department is now monitoring the prices of galunggong in the market.
