Barangay officials will welcome the season with merriment as President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order No. 99 (EO) which will provide Yuletide Social Assistance program to barangay employees.

In the celebration of the holiday season, the order acknowledged government workers for their service considering the occasion as an “opportune time” to raise programs for their ‘economic empowerment.’

The administration found barangays as a significant body of the nation’s development by performing its role and responsibility.

“[T]he State recognizes the role of the Barangay as an engine for national growth, and acknowledges the significant role and enormous responsibility of our barangay officials and functionaries in nation-building,” as written in the Executive Order.

The President assigned the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will conjoin in issuing guidelines for promoting the program that ‘shall take effect immediately’.

The program aid is directed to be charged against the barangays’ respective available funds.
