Well-loved music icon and Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson passed away on December 9 after her 17-year long battle with brain cancer. She was 61.
Her management Dimberg Jernberg Management confirmed her death in a statement today.
“It is with great sadness that we have to announce that one of our biggest and most beloved artists is gone,” the statement reads.
Her brain tumor was first detected in 2002. She was jogging when she collapsed and suffered seizure.
Fredriksson retired from the music scene three years ago on doctor’s advice.
A statement from her bandmate Per Gessie reads: “You were the most wonderful friend for over 40 years. Things will never be the same.”
The Swedish singer formed the pop duo Roxette with Per Gessie in 1986 with hits including The Look, Joyride and It Must Have Been Love.
