Dubai court orders bank to pay customer Dh4.6 million that scammers took

The Dubai Commercial Court has ordered a bank to pay its customer Dh4.6 million which was allegedly stolen from his bank account.

The court believes that the bank is responsible for lost money and it should bring back the amount to the account holder’s balance.

The bank must pay Dh4,677 million, and a Dh100,000 worth of compensation plus interest, Khaleej Times reported.

The money was stolen after scammers impersonated the account holder and applied for a card replacement.

The fraudsters were able to obtain the mobile number and asked the bank to give a new pin code to get the money through online banking.

The incident took place from December 2017 to January 2018.

“The court handed its ruling after it reached the conclusion that the bank was responsible for the complainant’s financial losses as it was argued by our legal team, acting on the latter’s behalf, that his account details had been leaked by an employee in a way that allowed for the fraud to take place,” the prosecution said.
