Almost 16 million tourists visited Dubai, Abu Dhabi in past 9 months

The Central Bank of the UAE has revealed that there has been a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the first nine months of 2019.

Records showed that 15.88 million visitors arrived in the two emirates compared to last year’s 15.26 million during the same period.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) also revealed that 6.8 million tourists have stayed at hotels in Dubai, an increase of 8.7 percent from 2018.

Highest number of visitors in Dubai came from the Philippines with 28.5 percent while Oman followed with 28.4 percent.

China registered a 13.7 percent record and 2.4 percent came from Saudi Arabia.

International hotel guests in Abu Dhabi also went up by 2.9 percent or 106,000 guests.

“Although international hotel guests in Abu Dhabi show a slowdown in terms of occupancy, all indicators point to an ascendant trend during 2019,” the report said.

The AFC Asian Cup 2019, IDEX/NAVDEX, Special Olympic Games, FIA World Rallycross Championship, Abu Dhabi International Book Fair and Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, were some of the events reported that attracted international visitors in 2019.
