The longstanding woes in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) may finally come to an end as President Rodrigo Duterte approved the 102-billion-peso unsolicited proposal from a consortium of business tycoons for the NAIA Rehabilitation Project.
The rehabilitation project aims to turn the capital’s main air gateway into a regional airport hub and expand the existing passenger traffic.
The National Economic and Development Authority board headed by the President finally agreed for the super-consortium bid to operate, modernize, and upgrade the facilities of Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The project suffered delays after the government returned the concession agreement.
The NEDA asked the proponents to follow the governments’ standard set for unsolicited projects.
The super-consortium is composed of Ayala Corp., Aboitiz Equity Venture, Alliance Global Group Inc., Asia Emerging Dragon, Filinvest Development, JG Summit Holdings, and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.
The NAIA Rehab Project is now on the list of flagship projects under the revised BUILD! BUILD! BUILD! along with San Miguel Corporation’s 735-billion-peso New Manila International Airport in Bulacan.
