Thousands of residents in Catanduanes were evacuated ahead of the landfall of Typhoon Tisoy on Monday afternoon (PH Time).
Jerry Beo, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, these 3,401 families or 14,646 individuals were evacuated at 1p.m. from the different towns of Baras, San Miguel, Bagamanoc, Caramoan, Gigmoto, Pandan, San Andres, and Virac, Inquirer.net reported.
Most of these families were evacuated because they live in flood-, storm surge-, and landslide-prone areas.
Earlier, the disaster office of Albay evacuated more than 100,000 individuals living in areas prone by lahar.
in Guinobatan town, 1,384 families or 4,972 individuals were also evacuated due to the threat of lahar flow, according to Mayor Gemma Onjoco as quoted in a report by ABS-CBN News.
In Camarines Norte, there were already 5,997 individuals from 11 towns that were evacuated.
The typhoon is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes or Albay between Monday night and early Tuesday.
