Philippine Airlines has lauded the Filipino pilot who was able to survive the storm of engine malfunctions, safely landing in Los Angeles airport a Boeing jumbo jet with 347 passengers on board.
Captain Triston Simeon was able “to turn back the plane and make a precautionary landing,” PAL spokeswoman Cielo Villaluna told ABS-CBN News.
The Boeing 777 bound for Manila made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff after one of its engines caught fire. The jet encountered engine trouble.
As shown in some viral videos, the passenger plane’s right-hand engine spewed thick black smoke and flames.
In the video posted by Geri Camahort Lamata, a series of loud bangs can also be heard.
“Hats off to you, B777 Capt. Triston Simeon for successfully landing the aircraft at Los Angeles’ Tom Bradley International Airport!” Villaluna wrote on her Facebook post.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
