A court of appeals in Abu Dhabi has let a woman keep a luxury car gifted by her husband before their divorce on the grounds any gift given by a man to his wife must not be returned if they are divorced.
A court of first instance had earlier ordered the woman to return the car to her ex-husband, who filed a suit against her demanding the return of the car and a sum of Dh500,000 worth of other presents he had given her during marriage.
But the court of appeals found that verdict flawed and rejected the man’s suit against his former wife, according to newspapers.
“The court of appeals decided to let the woman keep the car on the grounds any gift given by a husband to his wife should not be returned if they are divorced as per Sharia laws,” the official daily Al Bayan said.
