Duterte on Robredo: She’s not a Cabinet member

Vice President Leni Robredo is not a member of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Cabinet.

Duterte himself clarified this in an exclusive interview with GMA News.

This, even if Robredo has already accepted the post as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal drugs.

Last weekend, the President warned Robredo that he will fire her if she will disclose confidential information to foreign entities.

“She is not a member of the Cabinet. I have not appointed her as a Cabinet member. You know why? Early on she was talking right and left that she would talk to this and talk to that. In the Cabinet meeting, we talk about what’s happening eh kung marinig nya yan dyan tapos dadaldal nya sa labas, so di ko,” Duterte told GMA News.

When pressed on Robredo’s post, Duterte reiterated that she is not a Cabinet member.

“She’s not a Cabinet member. I have not signed an appointment designating her as a Cabinet member,” he added.

Duterte appointed Robredo as anti-drug czar after her comments that the war on drugs needs reassessment and tweaking.

She accepted Duterte’s offer and said that her role could help at least put an end on senseless killings.

Duterte’s statement is contrary to what he previously said when he offered Robredo the anti-drug czar post.

“If I would take her in as the drug czar, I will have to first make her a Cabinet member. Then I will give her the marching orders and the specific functions. All in connection with drugs, hers,” he said.
