A man from another Gulf country jumped 12 red signals in Sharjah at 160 kph as he was chased by at least 10 police patrols before he was caught.
The chase through the city’s streets began when a police patrol saw the speeding car and asked the driver to stop.
When he refused, the cops sped after him and called for police back-up as the Gulf driver pressed down the accelerator in a bid to escape.
Witnesses told court in the emirate on Sunday that they saw more than 10 police vehicles chasing a car, which was going as fast as 160 kph.
A policeman who was involved in the chase told the judge, “He risked his life and the lives of many road users in the city by such a reckless driving and behavior.”
When finally the car crashed into a pavement, it came to a standstill and the policemen tried to arrest the driver.
But he managed to switch the engine on and drive away, prompting the police to shoot at the tyres.
As the driver was forced to stop, cops rushed and arrested him but he tried to resist.
The judge decided to adjourn hearings to Dec 15.
