BREAKING: President Duterte says he will ban vaping

Following mounting concerns on the vaping and the use of vape products, President Rodrigo Duterte said he will ban vaping and the use of vape products.

The president was apparently invoking mandate to implement actions to uphold public safety and interest, The Philippine Star tonight reported.

Duterte had as early as September expressed his concerns over the sudden rise of vape users in the country.

Senator and former presidential aide Bong Go said in a senate hearing that Duterte wants an information campaign about the health hazards brought by vaping.

Go explained that Duterte wanted to know second hand exposure should be a cause for concern from non-vape users.

Moreover, the move was amid calls from the Department of Health (DOH) for an outright ban on electronic cigarettes, saying users of the product are exposed to health risks.

Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo said the rising use of electronic cigarettes is alarming, noting that even elementary students have tried vaping.

“If the DOH would have its way, we would go for an outright ban,” Philippine Star quoted Domingo as telling journalists in Malacañang.

“Even if the packaging and promotion is enticing to the youth, it is not for young people. These products are not good alternatives to normal or regular cigarettes,” Domingo said.
