Divisoria street vendors held a protest on the intensified Manila clearing operations on Monday.
The group said that the new Manila City government has deprived them of their income for their families.
Divisoria Vendors’ Association (DVA) on Sunday gathered at the Andres Bonifacio Shrine to protest.
“Vendors from Divisoria conducted a protest action to express their dismay over the series of clearing operations conducted by the local government unit as early as June 13, displacing the mostly women and elderly vendors and cutting off their only source of income for the everyday needs of their families,” the group said.
The group staged the protest on Monday morning during the city hall’s flag raising ceremony.
According to DVA, they have requested a meeting with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
“The vendors also requested a dialogue with Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso after the Monday flag ceremony, hoping that they could have their livelihood back in time for the Christmas rush,” DVA said.
Moreno previously allowed Divisoria vendors as long as they will allow motorists to pass through.
The Manila Mayor became disappointed when he held a random inspection and found piles of garbage on one of the streets.
