African health minister says condoms made in China ‘too small’

A condom manufacturer in China is now looking to make more products of different sizes following a complaint by a Zimbabwe health official that contraceptives made in China were “too small.”

Health Minister David Parirenyatwa said the condoms being exported to the African nation were not fit for men in Zimbabwe.

The health official made the comment during a recent event for HIV/Aids protection.

“The southern African region has the highest incidence of HIV and we are promoting the use of condoms,” Parirenyatwa said in a local media report.

“Youths now have a particular condom that they like, but we don’t manufacture them. We import condoms from China and some men complain they are too small,” he said.

The health official also encouraged Zimbabwe companies to look into making their own condoms.

“As to the different demands from customers such as in Zimbabwe, Daxiang, as a Chinese manufacturer, has the ability and the obligation to make a contribution, so we have started to do some surveys on users’ data in the region to make preparations for future products with different sizes,” a Chinese company said.
