54 kilos of assorted meat confiscated at NAIA

Officials today seized at least 54 kilos of assorted meat at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as part of precautionary measures to contain the threat of an African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in the country .

The Bureaus of Customs and Animal Industry confiscated a package containing 18.5 kilos of chicken, 19 kilos of pork, 12.5 kilos of duck meat and 4 kilos of beef.

Authorities told ABS-CBN News that the meat were from China, Japan and Malaysia.

The meat products were turned over to the Bureau of Quarantine for proper disposal.

Last month, the Agriculture department issued an appeal to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) coming home for the holiday season not to bring meat products from countries affected by ASF.

“Huwag na silang magbitbit. Makukumpiska lang sa mga airport at seaport, especially if dumaan sila sa Hong Kong and China,” DA said.
