Sea turtle lays eggs in Boracay

An Olive Ridley sea turtle has been found laying eggs at a resort in Boracay island, Tuesday.

The turtle had laid over 106 eggs as per a post from the Movenpick Resort and Spa on Facebook. Sea turtles are considered as rare species because of their decreasing population.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) quickly came to the area and created a fence around the eggs to secure them.

Authorities, in collaboration with the hotel management, said that they will take care of the eggs until they were hatched.

The incident might be strange to some because sea turtles are known to be laying eggs in places with less disturbances.

Marine biologist Haron Deo Vargas told GMA News that this as an indicator that despite the humans’ presence, the sea turtle trusts the beach enough that her eggs won’t disappear.

The law states that capturing, killing, and making turtles as pets is strictly prohibited.
