Microsoft says productivity improved with 4-day work week in Japan

The experiment of implementing a four-day work week at the Microsoft office in Japan boosted sales and cut costs, Agence France Presse reported.

This was done by closing the company that has 23,000 employees by Friday, this they were given special leaves for the duration of the trial.

Employees were also holding 30-minute meetings, doing online chats instead of face-to-face communication.

The results showed that sales per employee was higher by almost 40 percent in August from a year earlier, electricity consumption down by a quarter and paper usage was cut in half.

The project aimed to address the issue of overworking, death from overwork or “karoshi,” and encourage overworking couples to have children.
