Mother accused of negligence on fire incident leaving seven children dead

A woman from another Gulf country will be sentenced this month on charges of causing the death of her seven children in a fire that erupted in her house in Dibba Al Fujairah last year, newspapers said on Wednesday.

The prosecutor had earlier accused the woman of negligence and blamed her for the death of her children in the blaze while she was out and the house door was locked.

A medical report presented to court showed the children, aged between 5 and 15 years, died of asphyxiation from the fire smoke as they could not escape when the fire engulfed their house in January 2018.

Police and civil defence units battled the fire in the early hours of the morning and tried to rescue the three boys and four girls, including twins, but they were already dead.

Newspapers said the judge at Tuesday’s hearings decided to issue sentence on the case this November 18.
