Over 1,500 canned products from ASF-infected country ‘relabeled’

Over 1,500 canned products being sold at two major supermarkets in Legazpi City have been confiscated by authorities.

The products came from Vietnam, which is reportedly infected with the African Swine Fever (ASF). The supermarkets were also facing possible charges after its labels were allegedly tampered with.

Cans of luncheon meat and jamonilla are now under a hold order. Traceability documents are still pending before the Food and Drug Authority (FDA).

Dr. Emmanuel Estipona of the Legazpi City Veterinary Office told CNN Philippines this move is to prevent the spread of ASF.

All processed pork meat products from Vietnam, along with Hong Kong and 18 other countries where swine have tested positive for ASF have been banned in the Philippines.

  1. Oops fake news. Research details before posting. Manufacturer is Danish company (see photo Tulip Food Company) and Danish manufacturing plant is DK-65 printed on the side of the can. Like Spam, made in the US and distributed to Asian countries. Federated is the exclusive PH distributor. Vietnam distributor is for Vietnam only. Read labels carefully. See Tulip Philippines Facebook page for their Statement on proliferation of fake information. Also check the actual can to see for yourselves ?
