At least nine Filipino sailors waiting in the harbor of the port of Cotonou in Benin were abducted by suspected pirates on Saturday, Nov. 2, Agence France Presse reported.
A ship called Bonita was attacked about nine miles off the entrance to the port and eight crew members plus the ship’s captain were abducted.
It was the spokesperson of the Ugland company, the Norwegian owner of the ship who said that the abducted sailors were all Filipinos.
AFP also reported that pirates sometimes divert ships for several days, as they steal its cargo and demand huge ransoms before freeing the crew.
