Tropical cyclone Maha to affect UAE east coast areas

Tropical Cyclone Maha may affect UAE from Monday to Wednesday as it is expected to bring water surges, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

NCM, in its weather bulletin on Sunday, said Maha has now intensified into a category 1 cyclone with wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour.

By today (Monday), it is expected to further intensify into a category 2 cyclone with estimated wind speeds of 160-170 kilometers per hour wind speeds at its center.

Low lands may be affected as water surge may flood it during the period of the high tide over the east coast.

There are two cities (Kalba and Khor Fakkan) in Sharjah and one city (Dibba) in Fujairah that lie on the east coast.

NCM further expected the cyclone to move to the direction of northwestward re-curve by Tuesday to northeastward.
