PH Airforce airlifts 15 trapped villagers in North Cotabato after Mindanao quakes

Residents of Makilala town in North Cotabato who were isolated due to the powerful quakes last week are now safe.

The Philippine Airforce airlifted the 15 remaining villagers by rescue choppers on Sunday.

Acting vice governor Shirlyn Macasarte-Villanueva led the rescue operation for the provincial government.

Some 21 residents were the original target of the air rescue but 7 residents opted to walk despite the danger of taking the road littered with landslides to bring with them their livestock and motorcycles.

Philippine Air Force’s Capt. Glenn Cadeliña, Capt. Frank Floyd Tabat, Capt. Neil Jasper Layug, 1Lt Fedelle Torres led the rescue operations.

A 14-member Philippine Army troop, on the other hand, walked for hours to reach the area for assessment of the community and identification and clearing of landing zone.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has reported that at least 22 people were killed after two strong quakes hit Mindanao last week.

Damaged infrastructure also rose from 28,224 to 28,932.
