RTA’s Public Transport Day celebrations offer prizes, surprises for commuters in Dubai

A cash prize of up to Dh 25,000 is up for grabs on Nov. 8 as part of the activities lined-up for Public Transport Day.

The prize is for the first finisher while another Dh15,000 is given to the 2nd runner-up and Dh 10,000 for the third runner-up.

According to the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), the event entitled Scavenger Hunt will be staged at 12:00 noon on the said date.

Participation is open to individuals, including people of determination as well as teams representing public or private entities.

The event will be held at the Union Square Metro Station. However, participants must have to sign-up on RTA’s website before they can take part in the competition.

Also, cash prizes will be given to the most frequent users of public transit means from Nov. 1 to 11, including 6 RTA employees competing for a prize of Dh5,000.

Ten members of the public will also complete for a similar prize while four persons of people of determination will compete for another Dh 5,000.

Holders of registered Nol cards will earn triple Nol Plus points.

“The 10th edition of Public Transport Day initiative aims to promote the role of Dubai in supporting efforts to improve the environment, achieve sustainable development and encourage residents to use public transit means through educating them with the benefits of using public transport means. Events are anticipated to engage a wide spectrum of community members as well as prominent business entities in the UAE and staffs of RTA,” said Rowdah Al Mehrizi, Director of Marketing and Corp. Communication of RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector.

Meanwhile, other events that will take place include the Public Transport Day Race where the first three finishers will get a gold bar as a prize. This will be done along the Dubai Water Canal at 6:30 pm on Nov. 5. the Business Bay Promenade.

Yoga sessions will also be held at the Dubai Internet City Station.

As for tourists and visitors arriving at the Dubai Airport, they will be greeted giveaways including phone top-up cards, Nol cards, and maps of Dubai public transport network. They will also get a chance to win 10 airline tickets courtesy of Fly Dubai, free medical check-ups by Dr. Nutrition and Medeor Hospital at Metro stations, along with gifts and happiness messages at Dubai Tram stations.

The celebrations and events will continue up to Nov. 11, the day marking the 5th Anniversary of Dubai Tram.
