No tsunami alert after strong quake hit Cotabato anew

Two days after a powerful tremor hit the Tulunan town in Cotabato, another strong earthquake rocked the area, Thursday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the tectonic tremor struck 33 kilometers northeast of Tulunan town. 

The town was also the epicenter of a magnitude 6.6 quake and magnitude 6.3 quake earlier this month.

Phivolcs also issued an advisory that there is no tsunami threat in the area after the powerful quake. 

“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” it said in a statement

A hotel in front of the city hall in neighboring Kidapawan City collapsed due to the latest quake, social media videos showed.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown, Davao City, also felt the intensity of the quake with Ecoland 4000 condominium showing cracks after the quake.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the President is safe after the quake
