Duterte says disaster response in Mindanao quake ‘top concern’

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the government is on top of the earthquake response in Mindanao following a magnitude 6.5 quake that hit Cotabato and other nearby towns, Thursday morning.

Panelo said that disaster response is President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘top concern’.

Duterte himself felt the impact of the quake in his hometown in Davao City. The President might also visit areas mostly affected by the quake.

“The President had directed all agencies and responsible local government units to provide the necessary assistance and immediate relief to those affected,” Panelo said.

“The President considers all situations arising from natural disasters that have caused widespread destruction to lives and property a top concern,” he added in a statement.

A Cotabato town was rocked by a 6.5 quake Thursday following two other powerful quakes this month.

No tsunami alert was issued after the quake. Aftershocks can still be expected in the coming days.
